POLICE ARREST FOUR OVER SEA PIRACY IN ONDO   1 comment

Ondo State Police Command has arrested four people suspected to be sea pirates in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Council of the state at the weekend.

The suspects, who are said to be indigenes of Delta and Edo states, include – Kingsley Sunday, Felix Okiki, Okumagba Ibere and Godspower Happy and were accused of robbing Igbokoda’s residents of their money and other personal belongings at gunpoint while travelling on Awoye/Ubale waterways.

It was gathered that the suspects were apprehended through combined efforts of the police and some members of local vigilance group, who have been on their (the suspects) trail for a while.

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wole Ogodo, disclosed that two of the suspects are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Igbokoda following the injuries sustained while struggling to resist arrest.

Ogodo added that the stolen items could not be recovered from the hoodlums as they fell into the sea during the struggle to arrest them, commending efforts of the local vigilance group for assisting the police to arrest the alleged sea pirates.

He said that the suspects will be charged to court soon when the police conclude investigation into the matter.
